Globe, NGAP join hands to promote amateur golf

-

MANILA, Philippines - The National Golf Association of the Philippines recently reached an agreement with Globe Telecoms to launch a new amateur circuit beginning this year  and assure high-caliber tournaments.

Jesus Romero, head of business for Globe, and NGAP sec-gen Jun Arceo and director Tommy Manotoc, also the chair of tournaments and youth development program committees, sealed the deal with a handshake.

Philip Ella Juico, Wack Wack president and concurrent head of the NGAP’s private sector for golf development, played a huge part in landing the deal that would help the country’s golf body hold at least 10 more important events this year.

“Globe is very happy to be associated with the NGAP and help in the grass-roots development program,” Romero said.

“This is a classic example of the private sector helping an NSA,” Juico, the former Philippine Sports Commission chairman, said. “We are more than happy to be able to contribute to the national team in the future.”

Globe’s involvement actually started with the recent Philippine Amateur Open championship won by Fil-Singaporean Gregory Foo and Lovelyn Guioguio in Canlubang last Sunday.

The NGAP will hold the boys’ and girls’ match play championships, the Visayas and Mindanao regionals and the national boys and doubles championships, junior amateur open championship among others, this year.

“We cannot have golf development without the proper tournaments,” Manotoc said. “That’s why the help of Globe will definitely go a long way towards discovering talents for the national team.”
