Sea Lions complete sweep vs Mariners
MANILA, Philippines - John Corneh took charge at endgame as Olivarez College pulled off a 69-64 victory over Philippine Merchant Marine School in the 19th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball tournament yesterday.
Corneh hit a triple with 38.7 seconds left to shatter the 64-all count as the Sea Lions checked their skid and completed their sweep of the elimination round at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat, Parañaque.
The Sea Lions, who nearly squandered an 18-point lead in the third quarter, thus clinched the No. 1 seeding in the quarterfinal round of the tournament backed by Mikasa and Molten Balls, and ANI Agrinurture, Inc.
The Mariners, with Dan Reverente firing a game-high 17 points, settled for the No. 2 spot with a 5-1 mark.
Franklin Mancio scored 10 points for the Sea Lions while Corneh finished with eight points.
Meanwhile, Rizal Technological University drew big baskets from Elias Sarona and Jopet Quiro as they held off PATTS College of Aeronautics, 63-59.
Sarona and Quiro made the baskets in the last 21 seconds as the Blue Thunder earned their third win in five games.
