Wong, Marcelo bag WW Pres Cup plums

MANILA, Philippines - Wack Wack team skipper Elphege Wong carded a net 68 to capture the overall crown while EJ Marcelo took the Group I title with a net 69 in the 11th President’s Cup at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club’s west course over the weekend.

Wong, who steered the team to victory in the recent Federation Cup, shot a gross 78 at the par-72 layout then beat a host of others for the top plum in the 18-hole tournament held in honor of Wack Wack president Philip Ella Juico.

Marcelo, a scratch player, nipped Liberato Tan (70) and Garry Uy (70.2) for the Group I crown while Luis Tan Jr. made a net 70 from a gross 94 to cop the Group II title over Joshua Tsoi (70.4) and Benjamin Yam (70.6) in the event backed by major sponsors Pacific on Line Corporation and Northern Islands Co. Inc.

Joel Fernando turned in a net 71 under the Double Peoria scoring system and edged Lawrence Ngo and Lyndon Go by two to bag the Group III plum while Romulo Santos Jr. assembled a net 69.4 to nip Pablo Soon (70.4) and David Cheu (71) for the seniors crown.

Alice Jay Crisologo took the Group I title in the ladies division with a net 73, nipping Vicky Farrales (74) and Liza Lopez (74.4) while Nena Nakpil won the Group II crown with a net 73.4, beating Charrie Lim (75.2) and Mabek Kawsek (78.2).

Francis Gaston ruled the guest division with a net 70.2, nipping Cesar Lacuna, who had 70.4 while Anthony Lao finished third with 71.4 in the tournament supported by hole-in-one sponsors Cats Motors Phils., Toyota Balintawak, The Turf Company, 10-10-10, Dynamic Sports and Great Depot Inc.

A dinner party capped the day-long golfest with 10 grand prizes, 32 major items, and over a hundred minor items raffled off. China Airlines awarded the grand raffle prize of round trip tickets for two to the US and to Taipei.
