Jaguars notch first win in NCRAA

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine School of Business Administration Jaguars, behind a key triple by Justine Puno in the last 38 seconds, turned back the Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite Vanguard, 66-60, in the 19th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball tournament yesterday.

Puno, who had 14 points, triggered a 9-4 Jaguars’ windup with a trey, shattering a 56-all count and giving PSBA the upperhand in their featured showdown at the Olivarez College gymnasium in Sucat, Parañaque.

The Jaguars picked up their first win since taking a 73-79 setback last Thursday at the hands of the Olivarez College Sea Lions in the cagefest supported by Molten, Mikasa and new sponsor ANI AgriNurture Inc.

Philip Coronel showed the way for the Jaguars with 21 points.

Last Monday, the game between Rizal Technological University and PSBA was stopped after Blue Thunder player Ronnie Mayuyo fell on the ground in the third quarter of their match at the RTU gymnasium in Mandaluyong.

With RTU ahead, 59-40, in the last 2:23 of the third period, Mayuyo fell while trying to stop an offensive play, hitting the concrete floor at the edge of the wooden court.

Suffering from convulsions, he was rushed to the Polymedic Hospital in Mandaluyong and is currently recovering from whiplash, according to RTU coach Beaujing Acot.

School authorities, according to Cesar Hagos of Olivarez College and Pipo Onrubia of PMMS, have decided to hold the game on the last day of the elimination round at a different venue. They have yet to decide where the game will resume at the time it was stopped, or if it will be replayed altogether.

In volleyball, the PSBA Lady Jaguars pulled off a 25-21, 6-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-6 upset win over defending champion La Salle-Dasmarinas at the EAC-Cavite gymnasium.

They joined the RTU in the early lead after the Lady Thunder hacked out a 25-12, 25-12, 26-14 triumph over PATTS College of Aeronautics.

In the men’s side, the defending champion La Salle-Dasmarinas Patriots prevailed over RTU, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-14, while Olivarez College won over EAC-Cavite, 25-20, 25-20, 25-17, and Philippine Merchant Marine School turned back PATTS, 25-10, 25-14, 26-14.
