Tambunting, Sang top S'wood srs

MANILA, Philippines - Joseph Tambunting scored 44 Modified Stableford points to bag the overall net crown while Paul Sang took the overall gross plum with 35 points in the Manila Southwoods Chairman’s Cup at the Southwoods’ Legends and Masters courses in Carmona, Cavite last weekend.

Chul Park carded 38 points and nipped Theody Pascual and Joey del Pilar, who both had 37 points, for the Division I crown while Jun de Grano made 44 points to beat Hector Villanueva and Albert Sangco for Division II title in the annual two-day event held in honor of Southwoods chair Bob Sobrepeña.

Nilo San Juan turned in 44 points then edged Villanueva and Sangco in the countback for the Division III plum while Fernando Malveda also made a 44 to nip Tony Co in the countback for the Division IV crown. 

Elmer Civil had 41 points and placed third in the event which staked a Mitsubishi Lancer Ex GLX M/T and an Alaska cruise SYM Motorbike and air-conditioner (2 HP split type) for hole-in-one feats. The four prizes were later raffled off.

Ed Cataquis won the Senior I diadem with 44 points, edging Eugene Arriesgado and Lino Ceriola by one point, while Ed Guevarra took the Senior II title with 44 points, nipping Victor Conanan and Shiro Okamura in the countback.

Beachie Abiera also defeated Sandy Velhagen and Arlette Dizon in the countback after the troika wound up with 44 points for the Ladies I crown while Teresa San Juan churned out 44 points for a one-point win over Lilibeth de Villa and Deena Mendiola in Ladies II.

Anthony See shot a 69 under System 36 format to pocket the Guests/Sponsors division crown over Monet Garcia and Armand Ng, who both had 71s, in the event backed by major sponsors Warbid Securities and Resorts World and backed by Wilson Sports, The Turf Co. Pacsports Phl, Mitsubishi Motors Phl Corp./Diamond Motors Corp., Royal Caribbean/Baron Travel, SYM Motorbike and Mit-Air.
