Ateneo stuns FEU; Adamson claims No 4
MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo notched its first win in grand fashion, pulling off a stunning 55-52 win over UAAP champion Far Eastern University even as Adamson romped to its fourth straight victory in the FCBL Dickies Cup Saturday at the Philippine Buddhacare gym in Quezon City.
The Lady Eagles battled back from eight points down in the first half as they outscored the Morayta-based squad, 20-13, to post the biggest win so far in the inaugural tournament.
Susan Mercaco scored all her 12 points in the fourth, including a triple, while Sam Ong hit three triples and wound up with 11 points as Ateneo recorded its first win in the tournament backed by Powerhouse, Smart, Mang Inasal and Home Depot.
Adamson, on the other hand, crushed University of the East, 69-58, to grab the solo lead with Jezza Tajora dishing out a superb game of 20 points, 14 rebounds and three assists.
Like Ong, Tajora emerged Dickies Underwear Player of the Game.
Centro Escolar University streaked to its third straight win by downing University of Santo Tomas, 82-74, to tie La Salle at 3-1.
The Lady Archers, with Hannah Viterbo on the firing end, handed Lyceum its third defeat via a 65-50 decision.
Janine Pontejos scored a tournament-high 30 points to win the Dickies Underwear Player of the game award along with Viterbo who finished with 14 markers.
