Macasieb rules Bohol Iron Man

MANILA, Philippines - Arland Macasieb outclassed his rivals in a small but determined field of triathletes in the first Timex 226 Bohol Iron Distance Triathlon held yesterday at the beach plaza of the municipality of Anda.

A former member of the national triathlon team and the top Filipino finisher of last August’s 70.3 triathlon in Bicol, Macasieb finished the 3.8 km swim-180 km bike-42 km run event with a winning time of 10 hours, 18 minutes, 56 seconds. He was followed by August Benedicto of PMI (10:27:29) and Timex TMM’s Franklin Penalosa (10:36:36).

On the distaff side in the event sponsored by Rep. Arthur Yap (third district of Bohol), Timex, Explore Bohol, K-Swiss, Unilab Active Health, Gu Energy Gel, Amun Ini Resort and Spa, Pocari Sweat, Aboitiz Power and Bike King, Laarni de Guzman of Timex TMM emerged champion in 14:19:13. The silver went to Janice Tanada of Timex TMM (14:33:32) and the bronze to Bike King’s Ting Joson (15:39:53).

Age-group winners include Raymund Velasco (11:57:10) 20-29, Omar Paredes (16:20:13) 30-34, Christopher Eyao (10:49:43) 35-39, Ferdinand Sogoc (11:13:55) 40-44, Joevic Pajarillo (11:34:51) 45-49, and Albino Alindogan ((11:27:02) 50-above.

At hand during the awarding ceremony of the race supported by Summit Media, Balls TV, The Philippine STAR and SBR were Yap and Timex general manager Avinash Uttamchandani and race organizer Raul Cuevas (Bike King).
