Patrimonio, Capadocia gain semis

MANILA, Philippines - Second seed Anna Clarice Patrimonio and Marian Capadocia drove past their separate rivals to advance to the semifinal round of International Juniors Tennis Championship (ITF) junior’s Circuit Week 2 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center yesterday.

Patrimonio beat Warissara Prajoubhansri of Thailand, 6-3, 2-1 (Ret.), to claim a Final Four berth in the event that drew more than 50 foreign junior players.

Capadocia, on the other hand, relied on her solid backhand and big volleys to upset Week 1 finalist Miki Kobayashi of Japan, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, and remain in the title hunt in the tournament backed by Philippine Investment Management Inc. (Phinma), ATP Head balls, ITF, Philippine Tennis Association, Smart Sports, ICTSI, Viva Mineral Water, Powerade Energy Drink, Chris Sports, ATP, Century Park Hotel and Philippine Sports Commission.

In boys’ singles, Taiwan’s Yu Hsian Chiu held off Chinese Peng-Xiang Gong, 7-6 (5), 6-3, while Thailand’s Teeradorn Tortrakul beat Filipino Leander Lazaro, 6-4, 3-6, 2-1 (Ret.), to likewise enter the Final Four.
