Fancied Ateneo faces UE in UAAP volley
MANILA, Philippines - Pre-season favorite Ateneo clash with University of the East while Adamson University tangle with University of the Philippines at resumption today of UAAP Season 74 women’s volleyball action at the Blue Eagle gym.
The Ateneo-UE duel is set at 2 p.m. while the Adamson-UP game will start at 3:30 p.m.
In men’s play, it will be UE against De La Salle at 9 a.m. and National University against UP at 10:30 a.m.
As expected, high school star Alyssa Valdez lived up to the hype and scored 13 points against former team University of Santo Tomas in last Saturday’s opener. The Lady Eagles won, 25-16, 25-23, 25-18.
“The girls were impressive in their first game this season and I hope they would keep it that way the rest of the tournament,” said Lady Eagles coach Roger Gorayeb.
Ateneo boasts of a roster of strong players in setter Jem Ferrer, Fille Cainglet, Dzi Gervacio and Gretchen Ho.
The first real test for the Lady Eagles, though, will be on Saturday when they clash with defending champion and archrival De La Salle.
UE, on the other hand, hopes to bounce back from its 19-25, 14-25, 23-25 loss to Far Eastern University last Sunday.
Adamson and UP are also seeking to earn their first win of the season after dropping their matches over the weekend with the Lady Falcons losing to De La Salle, 20-25, 23-25, 25-12, 22-25, and the Lady Maroons yielding to NU, 6-25, 14-25, 18-25.
