Forest Hills pace Fil-A seniors by 12

BAGUIO, Philippines – With the top guns in the Seniors Fil Championship taking a break, Forest Hills Seniors took center stage yesterday as it fired 95 points and raced to a 12-shot lead in Fil-A in the 62nd Fil-Am Invitational golf tournament at Camp John Hay here.

Armando Buenavista scored 30 points as Forest Hills pooled a 95 for a three-day aggregate of 273, 12 shots ahead of Golf A Team, which had a 261 after an 86.

Anselmo Rodriguez tallied 27 while Rodolfo Villa and Gene Lim added 20 and 18 points, respectively. Carlos Mijares failed to count with 13 points.

Isabela got 29 points from Willy Enciso as it scored a 91 for third with 259 points.

Camp Aguinaldo, meanwhile, virtually bagged the Am A title after firing a 90 at the Baguio Country Club for a 54-hole total of 279, 32 shots off Baguio City Golf Team.

Fernando Reyla made a 25, while Ben Liclican and Domingo Manuel chipped in 23 and 21, respectively.

Richard Solang led BCC with 26 for 76 and 247. Baguio Rep. Bernardo Vergar had 18, Mel Corpuz made 17 and city building head Oscar Flores scored 15 points.

Jun Basabica scored 22 points and led BCC’s 72-point output for third at 229.

Sharing the spotlight are Teddy Quizon of Team Stallion and Earle Farrell of Summer Capital, who made hole-in-one feats.

Quizon hit an ace for a 26 as Team Stallion made 94 points for a 277 and a 13-shot lead over Summer Capital-South.

Marc Cruz added 25, Mark Lapid scored a 24 and Andy Austria chipped in 21 points.

Quizon used a 5-wood Callaway Big Bertha and Titleist Pro V1 ball in scoring the ace at the 180-yard No. 4 of the CJH course. He won a GPS Tracker in the tournament backed by Toyota, Pacsports, Illy, Empire and Wilson.

Farrell aced the 143-yard No. 13 using a No. 9-iron Callaway Diablo and a Titleist Pro V1. He won a 42-inch LCD TV.

Summer Capital had a pair of 26 from Eric Espadero and Marlon Herrera, while Farrell had a 20 and Inoc Laranang scored 18 points.

Ernesto Garcia topscored with 23 points at the BCC as A-1 produced 60 points for a 218 and a nine-point lead over Team Orion in Am G.

Meanwhile, Camp John Hay steps up its title-retention drive today as action in the Seniors Fil Championship resumes today at John Hay.

Camp John Hay made a 218 at the Baguio Country Club for a 14-point lead over Maxima Komatsu, which had a 204.

Fred Puckett, Rudy Lockey, Clyde Cabreros, Bong Mandapat and Park Jong Won hope to flash their familiarity with the John Hay layout in a bid to pull away from their rivals in the event backed by Fashion Rack, Air 21, Rizgolf, Supreme Bike, GPS Tracker, Golforce, San Miguel, Le Chef, Camp John Hay Development Corp., Beaufort and Bayan Business.

“Puckett and Lockey have done their part but we have to contribute better as we go to John Hay,” said CJH skipper Cabreros.

Maxima Komatsu will lean on Florene delos Santos, Bong Sison, Freddie Mendoza Poch Hernandez and Dennis Cabalfin as they try to close in on the CJH golfers to get a shot at the crown in the final round tomorrow.

In the Am division, CJH, led by Nelson Eslao’s 33 points, assembled a 210 to post a 42-point lead over Dragon Golfers. Lee Si Kung and Mars Garcia added 25 points each while either Ric Madayag or Jeong Sek Jun counted with a 21.

Dragon Golfers had a 168 after an 85 while Okinawa stood at 163 after an 80.
