Baguio virtual Batang Pinoy Luzon champ
MANILA, Philippines - Baguio crowned itself the overall champion in the Central and Northern Luzon Batang Pinoy Games as it copped 63 gold, 54 silver and 54 bronze medals in Baguio yesterday.
La Union, with Ryan Reyes and Jerusalem Galvez scoring abbreviated wins in boxing, won four golds in the penultimate playdate of the event and hiked its haul to 10-9-9 (gold-silver-bronze) to finish second behind the host city in the overall championship.
Malolos also racked up 10 golds but settled for third with seven silvers and seven bronzes in the event sponsored by Smart, Maynilad and Summit Mineral Drinking Water.
Reyes, fighting out of the La Union National High School, stopped Baguio bet Brent Rosayos in their light pinweight clash while Galvez, a senior at Caba National High, ruled the pinweight division.
Baguio City, meanwhile, topped taekwondo, winning all but two of the 16 gold medals disputed. Ilocos Sur took the other two golds in the event.
Angeles City bet Rommel Lucencio ruled the badminton boys’ singles while Baguio City’s Elinor Villanueva topped the girls’ side. John Mark Caranto and Chyla Amor Morillo from Pangasinan took the mixed doubles crown.
