Sacha wins Formula SL Novice kart title
MANILA, Philippines - Sacha Feliciano, 17-year-old Beacon Academy student, secured the champion’s trophy in the Formula SL Novice Division of the Petron Karting Series during the final leg held recently at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
Reprising the victory she forged one race ago on the same track, Feliciano bucked a less than ideal qualifying position that placed her on the second row for the start of the pre-final to engage the frontrunners in a series of furious position changes on the ultra-fast course that lasted the entire race. With three laps to go, Feliciano took the lead and held it to the checkered flag.
Due to deteriorating weather conditions race stewards were forced to cancel the final race, sealing the championship for Feliciano, who closed out the season with 433.5 points, followed by Basti Escalante with 399 and Jazz Monzones with 289.
After the event, a beaming Feliciano said, “It was really a pity because I was looking forward to the final but things like this happen and it’s all part of racing. I’d like to thank Edgen Dy-Liacco, Vincent Gonzales and Rene Beunaobra, who really put their heart and soul into preparing my kart for each practice and race. I also want to thank my family for their support. I couldn’t have done it without all of them.”
“Sacha is truly a phenomenal karter. She has discipline, focus and is a relentless fighter behind the wheel. I am proud of her,” Dy-Liacco, Feliciano’s coach and mentor said.
When asked what her next step will be, the ever-smiling lass said, “We’re entering ROK 125, which is a tough class. It’s been a long hard year so, for now, I’m just looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the coming Christmas break with my family and friends.”
