Cojuangco, Jackes reign in TRS Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Former Congressman Charlie Cojuangco bucked an early mishap to rule two races while Ross Jackes of Team Pacific Jet won once in the TRS Cup powered by Ford Fiesta at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently.

Cojuangco, aboard his GT40 Ford Fiesta, spun out and dropped to fourth in the first race but staged a big comeback to frustrate his rivals by maintaining a top speed of 2:09.861.

He completed the eight-lap race in 17 minutes, 21.861 or 5.245 seconds ahead of Bobby Horrigan who settled for second.

German national Stefan Wolf of Team Hafele took third place while Guamanian Eric Choi of Smart Netphone and Ross Jackes placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Cojuangco sustained his pace in the second race, pulling ahead early en route to another victory.

Singaporean Eric Choi of Smart Netphone and Wolf fought it out for second while Jackes and Basti Escalante of Smart Bro battled it out for fourth.

Jackes, meanwhile, topped third race of the event powered by Castrol and Bridgestone and sponsored by Standard Insurance, Coke Zero, Hafele, Ford Alabang, Smart Bro, and Smart Netphone, official time U-boat, official partners Oakley, Rota, Hastravel, Speedlab, Starbright Bodykits, Emotion, AAP, media Partners, C! Magazine, Manila Bulletin, Channel V, Stoplight TV, Turbozone, Kotse.com and 99.5RT, and event partners Manila Beer, Vector, Toptul and Lifeline Ambulance.

Escalante pushed too hard and went off the track then with Jackes while trying to force his way back on track. This forced both Escalante and Jackes to retire as Horrigan eventually wound up third with Paolo Bringas of Castrol Car and lady driver Yvana Carangan of Standard Insurance checking in fourth and fifth, respectively.

A reversed grid order was implemented in the final races, giving Jackes a headstart on pole position. He preserved his post from there to win the race in 17 minutes, 11.946 seconds.

Horrigan finished second just 1.034 seconds later as he managed to keep his pace against third placer Cojuangco. Wolf and Choi placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

The next race is set Dec. 11 at the Clark International Speedway. For details, email www.tuasonracng.com or at info@tuasonracing .com or visit Tuason racing school fanpage on facebook or call the TRS secretariat c/o Aileen Urgelles and Abi at 820-4203.
