Novaliches chess tourney slated

MANILA, Philippines - The second Novaliches non-master rapid chess championship will be held Nov. 30 with a big field expected to see action at the Activity Center of SM City Novaliches.

The event is open to untitled players with NCFP rating of 2100 and below with the winner getting P5,000 plus trophy, according to Sonsea Agonoy, president of the organizing Novaliches Novelty Chess Club at Francisco Arcade, Damong Maliit, Brgy. Nagkaisang Nayon, Novaliches, QC.

Other titles to be disputed are the seniors, kiddies and ladies titles.

Meanwhile, the NNCC announced that few remaining slots in the Battle of Champions, which offers cash prizes, trophies and chess books, to be held on Dec. 29 are still up for grabs in the weekly active tournaments.

Also in the works is the NNCC’s major event in February – the first Novelty inter-commercial chess team championships to be sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Phils. as confirmed by NCFP executive director GM Jayson Gonzales.

The big event will be sponsored by CVM Investment, Inc., headed by CEO Carmelito Mejia of Rancho Cordova, Calif., a major backer of NNCC along with Arcade and Joel Sampang of Texas.
