UB Brahmans top PCCL Sl-Bicol leg

MANILA, Philippines - The University of Batangas Brahmans, champions of North Batangas Open League, trounced the Ateneo de Naga Golden Knights, 81-74, to top the Southern Luzon-Bicol regional games of the Champions League (PCCL) 2011 National Collegiate Championship in Naga City over the weekend.

With the win, the Brahmans earned a seat in the Sweet 16 Finals firing off Nov. 19 at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan City.

In the battle for third, Amanda Cope College Green Serpents from Tabaco overwhelmed The Lewis College Blazing Fox, champion of Sorsogon, 110-84.

Forty-four teams participated in the six accredited “mother leagues” in the region. The champion teams that qualified for the regional games were: University of Batangas Brahmans for North Batangas Open League; University of Perpetual Help Laguna Saints for NCAA-South; Amanda Cope College Green Serpents for Tabaco Collegiate League; The Lewis College Blazing Foxs for Sorsogon Collegiate League; M.S. Enverga University Lucena Wildcats of Quezon Province League and Ateneo de Naga Golden Knights for Naga City League.

Coach Joe Lipa Jr., PCCL executive director, announced that ABS-CBN Sports is covering all the regional games to be aired over Studio 23.

He added that the remaining Sweet 16 seats are to be contested in the regional championships for Mindanao on Nov. 15-16 at Almendras Gym, Davao City; and for Visayas at Ormoc Astrodome, Ormoc City on Nov. 27-28.

Other teams in the Sweet 16 group are Ateneo, San Beda, FEU, San Sebastian, Adamson U, Letran, UST, JRU, U Cebu, Southwestern U, National U, La Salle and University of Northern Phl.
