Case of the missing gold in taekwondo

PALEMBANG – Information gathering through the SEA Games website continues to be a problem. Official schedules provided by the website sometimes show different information from what actually takes place the next day.

An example is the long jump event where Henry Dagmil was to compete on Saturday and Maristella Torres on Sunday. It was the other way around.

There were events where eliminations were cancelled but remained on the website schedule.

The worst booboo was the gold medal tally of the Philippines. Media based in the Philippines swore they witnessed the awarding ceremonies in taekwondo where Camille Manalo was awarded the gold in the lightweight (57-62kg).

The final gold medal tally for Saturday had the Philippines winning only three instead of four and Indonesia had 24 instead of 23.

When a media man from the Philippines called the attention of organizers to the error, they promptly adjusted the medal standings.

The adjusted gold-silver-bronze medal standings before the start of yesterday’s action had Indonesia with 23-16-11, Singapore 8-8-8, Vietnam 7-7-11, Thailand 6-9-9,  Philippines 4-2-5, Malaysia 3-5-7, Myanmar 0-4-2, Laos 0-0-4 and Brunei, Cambodia and Timor Leste without a medal.
