NU trips Olivarez, claims CDL crown

-

MANILA, Philippines - National University, slowly emerging as a collegiate basketball power, added a new title to its collection as it defeated Olivarez College, 85-57, in a winner-take-all finale in the Philippine Sports Commission-backed Sandugo-Collegiate Development League at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum last weekend.

MVP awardee Mark de Guzman went three-for-three from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points as the Bulldogs took charge from the start and went unassailably ahead at 62-27 in the third quarter en route to victory.

De Guzman also had three assists and two steals in the game graced by SM and NU owner Hans Sy, who has been very supportive of the school’s sports development program.

PSC commissioner and executive director Chito Loyzaga presented the league’s Mythical 5 awardees and other individual awards named in honor of his late father, Caloy Loyzaga.

Chosen members of the PSC-Sandugo- CDL first five were Troy Rosario of NU, Nicol Bolos from Trinity University of Asia, John Marco Tayongtong from Emilio Aguinaldo College, FEU’s Anthony Hardgrove Jr., and John Daniel Flores from Olivarez College.

Former PBA player and  NU assistant coach Joey Guanio was named best coach in the league backed by Gatorade, Phiten, Molten, and Primovit Multi-vitamins.
