-

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s top-rated fighters led by elite blackbelts from 12 regions nationwide will display their wares in the 2011 Smart MVP Best of the Best taekwondo championships on Oct. 29-30 at the San Miguel by the Bay, Music Hall, SM Mall of Asia.

Only gold medal winners in the blackbelt levels of national events such as Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao Championships, the UAAP, NCAA, AFP-PNP Olympics and all PTA competitions in Metro Manila and different regions including blackbelt organizations Taekwondo Blackbelt Brotherhood (TBB), Taekwondo Blackbelt Sorority (TBS) and the Philippine Taekwondo Contingent (PTC) are qualified to join.

Tournament director Jesus Morales III expects 700 blackbelts to compete in the prestigious event organized by the Philippine Taekwondo Association.

The latest advancement in taekwondo called PSS or Protective Scoring System will be used in the tourney.

Precise, accurate and spectator-friendly are among the key features of the PSS which uses electronic sensors in both armors and socks to score points which reflect on the monitor. This does not only eliminate human errors but produces scores that guarantee fair results.

Competition will be conducted in the senior, junior and grade school divisions of the much-awaited tournament supported by SMART Communications Inc., MVP Sports Foundation and PLDT.

Martial arts enthusiasts and sports buffs, especially children who are interested to learn the sport, are invited to watch the two-day event.
