MANILA, Philippines - Denied the first time out, La Salle Greenhills 5 served notice of its championship potential by grabbing a six-point lead over Colegio de San Agustin in the Midgets 1 division at the start of the ICTSI Inter-school golf tournament second leg last weekend at the Aguinaldo golf course.
Ryan Monsalve delivered 41 points for the LSGH 5 cause while Spade Barbers and Joni Pancho made 35 and 33, respectively, as they chalked up a collective 109 at the compact but challenging layout inside the military headquarters.
LSGH 5 was just good for third place in the first leg but the Greenies primed themselves up for a shot at the crown with a solid effort at Aguinaldo where the CSA team opened up with 103 to trail by six.
Kristoffer Arevalo, the individual winner in the previous leg, led scoring for CSA with 43 and got scoring support from Anton Miguel Guarina (38) and David Joshua Arevalo (22).
Ateneo teams, meanwhile, continued to dominate the Midgets 2 action of this school season series of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines also sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Chevrolet, Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy and Sizzilin Pepper.
Eagle Ridge, the country’s largest golf complex in Gen. Trias, Cavite, makes its debut as a host venue for the junior golfers today when it hosts the junior and girls field. The Midgets play the course next weekend.
Aidric Chan kept his solid form to shoot 47 points and Carl Jano Corpus backed him up with 43 as Ateneo 2 posted 90 to zoom ahead by 26 over Ateneo 3 (Raymond Quinto and Raphael Samson with 32 each). Ateneo 4 was running third at 53.
