Discovery Perlas ng Pilipinas rules women's cage invit'l

MANILA, Philippines - The Discovery Perlas ng Pilipinas women’s team held back Thailand, 65-54, and won the first PSC-SBP Discovery Women’s Basketball Invitational recently at the West Negros University in Bacolod City.

Five players scored in double figures, with Melissa Jacob hitting a game high 16 points, Cassy Tioseco 12, Ewon Ayari 11, Ambie Almazan 10 and AA Adriano 10 in a balanced attack as the Discovery Perlas ng Pilipinas ruled the inaugural tournament, relegating Thailand to second, China to third and Qatar to fourth.

Other mainstays were Southeast Asian Games-bound Joan Grajales (team captain), Treena Limgenco, Karen Lomogda, AJ Gloriani, Diana Jose, Jalaine Flormata, and Chovi Borja.

The team was coached by Haydee Ong, with Cynthia Lacson Tiu as team manager.
