Air Force, Indons reach volley semis

MANILA, Philippines - Defending men’s champion Philippine Air Force and Indonesian national women’s team bested their respective rivals to advance to the semifinal round of the National Volleyball Open Championship at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium yesterday.

Air Force, with Rhovyl Verayo and Dante Alinsunurin on the firing end, thwarted National U, 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, to clinch the No. 1 spot in the men’s semis with a 3-0 win-loss record.

Indonesia, on the other hand, routed Holy Angel University, 25-5, 25-14, 25-11, to top the women’s side with a 4-0 slate.

Agot, the other men’s semifinalist, survived Far Eastern University in a thrilling five-setter, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10, to remain undefeated in four games.

University of Perpetual Help (2-1) and FEU (3-1) are also vying for the last two spots in the men’s semis, while FEU, La Salle and the Philippine team are battling it out in the women’s side.
