San Beda, Xavier clinch QF berths

MANILA, Philippines - San Beda and Xavier School beat their respective rivals to formally claim the top two berths in Group A quarterfinals in the junior division of the ninth Fr. Martin Division II Cup at the San Beda College gym over the weekend.

Aaron Morante shot 16 points while Alejandro Inigo, Lancelot Abude, Niko Abatayo, John Ryan Gumitang and Joshua Andrei Caracut scored 13, 12, 11, 10 and 10 points, respectively, as the Red Cubs routed the La Salle Greenhills side, 115-78, to complete their sweep of Group A.

Jeron Teng, meanwhile, fired 45 points as the Golden Stallions cruised to a 71-56 victory over Chiang Kai Shek for a seat in the quarters with a 7-1 slate.

Arellano University-A (5-2) and Chiang Kai Shek-A (5-3) joined the Red Cubs and the Golden Stallions in the next round.

The Jose Rizal University Light Bombers edged the Adamson Baby Falcons, 85-83, for a share of fourth with College of San Benildo-Rizal at 4-3 in Group B.

The University of Sto. Tomas Tiger Cubs won over St.Jude Catholic School, 80-63, for their first win in seven games.

In seniors play, the College of St. Benilde Blazers won by forfeiture over the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers to improve to 5-1, the same output by the San Beda Red Lions in Group A.
