Adobo Run After Dark gets green light

- Abac Cordero -

MANILA, Philippines - The green light is on for the second Adobo Run After Dark on Oct. 19 at the Aseana Business Park near Mall of Asia.

The race, which is expected to draw 5,000 runners, is unique in many ways.

“For one, it’s a night race. And we’re kicking off the Halloween week by asking the participants to come in costumes,” said Rod Nepomuceno of the event organizer, Crush Communications.

The former country manager of IMG, the giant sports marketing agency, said a P10,000 cash prize awaits the winner of the Best in Costume.

There will be three race categories: 3K (to be fired off at 8 p.m.), 5K (8:20 p.m.) and 15K (9 p.m.) The winners will get cash prizes ranging from P3,000 to P7,000.

And since it’s a night race, an after-run party will take place – live music, free-flowing beer, a sideline bazaar, fireworks display and dazzling lights show.

Registration fee is pegged at P750 for all categories, and it’s on until Oct. 23 at Runnr Trinoma, Toby’s Edsa Shangri-La Mall and R.O.X. Bonifacio High Street.

Online registration is through www.adoborun.runningmate.ph.

Aside from Adobo Magazine, a bi-monthly publication for the advertising, brand communications and marketing community, other sponsors include Meralco, St. Luke’s Medical Center, McDonald’s and The Philippine STAR.

To lighten the event, organizers hooked up with My Shelter Foundation, a non-profit group under model and social entrepreneur Ilac Diaz.

Diaz’ “Isang Litrong Liwanag” is a magical idea that has already benefited many Filipinos, particularly those living in the slum areas, and how a simple plastic bottle can be used to light up their homes.

So far, “Isang Litrong Liwanag” has installed 12,000 solar bottle bulbs for more than 10,000 homes in five provinces.
