POW, 2 others seek win No. 2
MANILA, Philippines - POW, Gameville and Cogeo try to sustain their opening day surge as they gun for win No. 2 against separate rivals at resumption today of the first Burlington-Life Begins@40 basketball tournament at Brgy. Bangkal gym at Gen. Lim St. in Makati.
With Paul Lorca and Allan Miranda on the firing end, the POW cagers romped off to a 107-53 victory over Big J-Sporting Goods to kick off their title bid in the Biofresh 40-and-above-division of the tournament sponsored by Burlington and organized by Total Events and Athlete Management (TEAM) last week.
POW, which also features former PBA chairmen Buddy Encarnado and Jun Cabalan, takes on the Burlington side at 3 p.m. after the 1:30 p.m. contest between Gameville and Big J.
Gameville, behind Alvin Medina and Joel Jabar, also ran away with a 78-62 rout of Biñan while Cogeo, which battles Biñan in the 12 noon opener, blasted Burlington, 141-78.
POW also seeks its second win in the Shock XT 50-and-above category of the tournament backed by BioFresh anti-microbial solutions, Shock XT Conti balls, Pocari Sweat, Accel, Vitwater Power, Unilab, Pollen B and HomeHealth Care as it clashes with Divina Law, Brgy. Bangkal, ripped Sun Moon/Electrobyte, 81-49, in a duel of opening day winners.
They dispute the lead at 5 p.m. while Paco Catholic School 74 and Sun Moon/Electrobyte duel in the 6:30 p.m. main dish of the five-game bill backed by media partners Malaya Business Insight, Business Mirror, Total Fitness Mag, Medyo Late Nite Show w. Jojo A. and Ka2waan@Radio Inquirer.
Spicing up the six-week long tournament are side events such as the father-and-son 3-point shootout and father-and-daughter free throw shooting contest. The teams clash in a single round robin format with the top two from each division disputing the crown, according to Teddy Pereña of the organizing TEAM.
