MANILA, Philippines - Routs marked the opener of the first Burlington-Life Begins@40 basketball tournament with POW fashioning out a pair of one-sided triumphs in two divisions at Brgy. Bangkal gym at Gen. Lim St. in Makati City recently.
Paul Lorca fired 18 points while Allan Miranda added 14 markers as POW trounced Big J-Sporting Goods, 107-53, in the Biofresh 40-and-above-division of the tournament sponsored by Burlington and organized by Total Events and Athlete Management (TEAM).
Fomer PBA chairmen Buddy Encarnado and Jun Cabalan of POW and Sun Moon/Electrobyte’s Rene Pardo graced the opener of the tournament along with comedian Brod Pete and sportscaster Seve Sarmenta of Paco Catholic School Batch 74.
POW also dominated Paco Catholic School Batch 1974, 109-53, in the 50-and-above category of the tournament backed by BioFresh anti-microbial solutions, Shock XT Conti balls, Pocari Sweat, Accel, Vitwater Power, Unilab, Pollen B, HomeHealth Care and supported by media partners Malaya Business Insight, Business Mirror, Total Fitness Mag, Medyo Late Nite Show w. Danilo de Jesus and Felix Tabunda shot a pair of 15 points as POW put to naught Enrique Selecios’ day-best 33 points and Herman Salvador’s 11 markers for PCS.
Cogeo matched POW’s romp in the 40-and-under class with a 141-78 victory over Shock XT with Teofilo Eleria and Dale Allen leading the attack with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Danny Mira had 10 points for Shock XT.
Gameville also drove past Biñan, 78-62, with Alvin Medina and Joel Jabar scoring 18 and 10 points, respectively. Lito Bautista and Reynaldo Custodio made 18 and 10 points, respectively for Biñan.
Divina Law/Brgy Bangkal demolished Sun Moon/Electrobyte, 81-49, in the other game with Ronnie Santos scoring 15 points for Divina Law and Andy Altajeros leading Sun Moon with 17 markers.
