Samsung Am Open slated at Summit

-

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s top amateur players and rising stars plus a slew of jungolfers slug it out for top honors next month when the Samsung Amateur Open is held Oct. 21-22 at the Summit Golf Club in Lipa, Batangas.

A huge field is seen in the upcoming event presented by Samsung with the battle for the championship in the centerpiece Open division (0-3.9 handicap) expected to be fierce among the leading shotmakers in the ranks, including members of the national pool.

Seven other categories are on tap in the 36-hole, stroke-play event, put up by Samsung Phils. in its continuing effort to help develop the sport and discover talents who could be tapped and trained to become members of the national team to various international competitions.

Also to be disputed are titles in Classes A (4-8.9), B (9-14.9), C (15-21.9) and D (22-and-above) for men and Classes A (0-8.9), B (9-19.9) and C (20-and-above) for ladies in the tournament backed by Airphil Express, Glucos Care, Mizuno, Custom Clubmakers, Inquirer Golf, Titleist, Footjoy, Summit Point, Bluemansion Enterprise and Business Mirror.

Charles Hong pulled off a three-stroke victory over Aristeo Mata and Park Jung-soo to cop last year’s crown at his home course at Eastridge Golf Club in Binangonan, Rizal but he is expected to have his hands full in the upcoming event.

Registration is ongoing. For details, contact Bluemansion Enterprise and Services Company at (632) 211-5954 or 0917-8121242 or (632) 6715767 (telefax).

Also expected to see action in the Open side is Richard Joson of Royal Northwoods, who bested Valley Golf’s Adrian Mauricio in the Samsung National Tournament of Club Champions at Eagle Ridge in Cavite last May.

Members of the national teams (men’s and ladies) are also likely to compete in the event as part of their buildup for the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia in November.
