Life Begins@40 Saturday at Makati

MANILA, Philippines - Action in the Burlington-Life Begins@40 basketball tournament gets going Saturday with 10 teams clashing for two division titles at the Brgy. Bangkal gym at Gen. Lim St. in Makati City.

Three former PBA chairmen – Jun Cabalan (Ginebra), Buddy Encarnado (Sta. Lucia) and Rene Pardo (B-Meg) – see action in various squads in the Shock XT 50-and-above category of the event put up by Burlington Industries Phils. (BIP) Inc and Total Events and Athlete Management (TEAM) to generate awareness on the need to stay fit.

Cabalan and Encarnado banner the POW team while Pardo heads the Sun Moon Giants squad in the six-week long event, which also drew the participation of Paco Catholic School Batch 74 and Divina Law/Brgy. Bangkal.

Broadcaster Sev Sarmenta and actor Brod Pete lead the Paco Catholic team in the tournament sponsored by Burlington and backed by BioFresh anti-microbial solutions, Shock XT Conti balls, Pocari Sweat, Accel, Vitwater Power, Unilab, Pollen B, HomeHealth Care and Floral Style.

Also on tap is the 40-and-above category made up of POW, Big J Sporting Goods, Gameville, Burlington, Biñan and Cogeo Sat-Sun Basketball Club.

The tournament, supported by media partners Malaya Business Insight, Business Mirror, Total Fitness Mag, Medyo Late Nite Show w. Jojo A. and Ka2waan@Radio Inquirer, also features side events such as the father-and-son 3-point shootout and father-and-daughter free throw shooting contest.

The teams clash in a single round robin format with the top two from each division facing off for the crown, according to Teddy Pereña of the organizing TEAM and commissioner Bennett Palad.
