Paeng, Biboy lead cast vying for W Cup berths

MANILA, Philippines - Eighty-two crack pintopplers, headed by six-time world champion Paeng Nepomuceno and former world titlist Biboy Rivera, eye a stint in the 47th Bowling World Cup international finals late this year as they see action on Saturday, in the opening stage of the national competition at Coronado Lanes.

 Nepomuceno, Rivera and the rest of the bowlers will roll 12 games starting at 10 a.m. with the top 34 finishers advancing to the second round on Sept. 20 at Paeng’s Midtown.

The ladies, led by Liza del Rosario, Apple Posadas, Liza Clutario and Lara Posadas, will open their respective bids on Sunday also at Coronado Lanes.

The ladies, numbering 58, will bowl only 10 games each with the top 34 also moving up to the next round.

The last day of competition featuring the quarterfinal, semifinal and final matches will be held on Sept. 23 at the SM Mall of Asia center.

The men’s and ladies’ champions will represent the country in the 2011 QUBICAAMF BWC international finals set on Nov. 30-Dec. 7 at Northcliff Bowling Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.
