Powerade faces big test after revamp

-

MANILA, Philippines - Improving talent-wise is one thing and improving on performance on the court is another.

Powerade coach Bo Perasol said this is the challenge they face now after netting two marquee players from the annual rookie draft.

The Tigers drafted and signed Smart Gilas stalwarts Jayvee Casio and Marcio Lassiter then enlisted four other new faces in a major overhaul they hope would result to a breakthrough in the coming 37th PBA season.

“There’s no question that our roster has improved. But it’s not a guarantee of an improvement on our performance,” said Perasol.

Perasol said there are things to work on for a good roster to produce good results.

“It depends on how players get together. In our case, the questions include how can Gary David live with Lassiter and how can Casio balance the touches of the two scorers while also being a threat himself,” said Perasol.

The Powerade mentor said another concern is how to offset their weak frontline.

The Tigers are looking at Romel Adducul to beef up their frontcourt now featuring Ricky Calimag, Alex Crisano and Doug Kramer.

“He’s not practicing with B-Meg. If he’s given his release papers, we’ll get him,” said Perasol of Adducul.
