MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University (FEU) wore down De La Salle, 59-53, in overtime on Sunday and although it kept the UAAP Season 74 women’s basketball lead with an 11-2 won-lost record, its hold of the No. 1 spot remained shaky.
Allana Lim churned in a double-double 20-point, 11-rebound performance for the Lady Tamaraws, who found themselves threatened by the Tigresses of University of Santo Tomas (UST).
UST, with Juvelyn Andaya topscoring with 21 points and Mary Joy Galicia grabbing 12 rebounds, also won on Sunday at the Blue Eagle gym – 72-63 over University of the East (UE) – and with a second-running 10-3 card, could steal the top spot if it beats FEU at the close of the double-round eliminations on Sept. 11.
The Tigresses need the win very badly if they want to secure a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four. A loss by UST would give De La Salle and Adamson University, each toting 9-4, shots at No. 2 for that precious semifinal incentive.
