Marquez barely makes flight to New York
MANILA, Philippines - Visiting Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez and his entourage barely made it to their flight to the US due to a missing suitcase bearing his “lucky” boxing effects.
Marquez’s group was unloading their luggage for check-in at the NAIA Terminal 1 at around 6 a.m. when “El Dinamita” noticed that his hand-carried suitcase was missing, realizing they left it on the limousine that took them to the airport from their hotel.
Marquez insisted on not leaving without the bag, claiming it contains training gloves and trunks that he believes bring him luck.
But the Delta Air official at the counter told the Marquez delegation that Flight DL172 to New York via Narita, Japan could not wait for them and would depart at 7:45 a.m. as scheduled whether or not they’re on-board.
After minutes of discussion, the Mexicans eventually relented and proceeded to the boarding gate with out the suitcase.
Marquez was in the country for the Manila leg of the World Press Tour promo of his Nov. 12 duel with Filipino pound-for-pound king and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
