Top junior karters take center stage in Petron karting

-

MANILA, Philippines - Top junior karters brace for intense battles as they try to fortify their title bids today in the fifth leg of the 2011 Petron Blaze Karting Super Series at the Enchanted Kingdom Kart Track in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

A tight duel between Cebuano Jette Calderon of Industria Racing and Vrei-AR Suba of FERN-C Racing is expected to brew as they dispute the coveted Junior Karter of the Year award of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by Petron Blaze 100, San Miguel Corporation, Denso Iridium Power, Motorstar Eastway and Yokohama Philippines.

Only one point separates the two. Calderon, who ruled the kickoff leg and the Boomland race, leads the ROK Junior class with 201 points while Suba, who glittered in the Batangas race, is in close second with 200.

Out to stop the two are Franco Reyes and CJ Tsui of Industria Racing, Estefano Rivera and Matthew Chan of FERN-C Racing, Daniel Miranda of Maranello-San Miguel Corporation-Marcelo Racing, and Archim Lagman.

Chan likewise is hoping for a repeat of his feat over Miranda and Tsui to firm up his bid for the ROK Novice crown.

Expected to draw equal attention is the showdown between FERN-C Racing’s Sacha Feliciano and Tuason Racing’s Basti Escalante for the Formula SL Novice title.

Feliciano, following her remarkable feat beating all her male rivals in the Asian Karting Open, regained solo leadership with 247 points or eight points ahead of Basti Escalante (239).

Joining them are Jaz Monzones of Natmo-Asia who’s third with 146, Adrian Tambuyat, Jason Ryan Difuntorum, Wayne Norman Darvin, JT Gullas, Adrian Louis Angeles and Sean Velasco.

Carl Pollington of FERN-C Racing tries to preserve his perfect slate in the Mini-ROK division against Vince Adrian Rojo, Jerome Julian, Jarond Mesina, Xedrei Daquigan and Russel Rex King.

Raymond Cudala of Tuason Racing and Bryan Thorp of AUTS also aims to preserve their solo leadership in the Cadet SQ division.

Cudala, currently with 275 points, is eyeing another 1-2-3 finish for Tuason Racing together with Will Casequin and Arthur “AT” Tuason in the Cadet SQ Expert class while Thorp, holding a total of 124 points, seeks another win to stay on top of the Cadet SQ Novice division against Daquigan (91 pts.), Gabe Tayao (74 pts.) and Dylan Arambulo (70 pts.).
