Dog walk, AKCUPI shows slated Sept. 4
MANILA, Philippines - Two events – the Dog Walk for Peace and the 45th and 46th All-Breed Dog Shows of the Asian Kennel Club Union of the Philippines, Inc. (AKCUPI) – will be held Sept. 4 at Tiendesitas on E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave. and Ortigas Ave., Pasig.
The Dog Walk for Peace, organized by Pets for Peace (initiative of Ang Komunidad para sa Ikauunlad ng Tao), together with AKCUPI affiliates Labrador Retriever Owners Club and Asia Pacific Sporting Dog Club, Cross Breed Club of the Philippines and Cavite Mondioring, is being mounted in observance of the National Peace Consciousness Month of September.
Dog show officials Willa Tecson said highlights of the event which will kick off at 5:30 a.m., will be the peace sign formation, paw printing for peace, pet blessing and”Dogs for a Cause” fund drive whose beneficiaries are the pediatric ward of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and youth peace advocacy activities. The AKCUPI dog shows, on the other hand, will be adjudicated by two top-notch international all-breed lady judges, Su Hsueh Chen of the Republic of China and Stephanie Seabrook Hedgepath of the United States.
Chen, an all-breed judge since 1993 and a class “A” dog stylist or groomer, is a member of the Judges Committee of the Taiwan Kennel Association (TKA) and had officiated shows in Taiwan and South Korea. Hedgepath, an American Kennel Club (AKC) international judge and Westminster Kennel Club judge, started judging in 1988 upon getting her license from the AKC in 1988. She adjudicated in the US, Canada, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Jamaica, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and China.
