Lady Tams clip Falcons, tie Tigresses

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University (FEU) beat reigning champion Adamson University, 74-51, to stay in stride with University of Santo Tomas (UST) as jostling for Final Four berths started to reach fever-pitch in UAAP Season 74 women’s basketball Wednesday at the Blue Eagle gym.

Allana Lim had a double-double 21 points and 16 rebounds and Raiza Palmera added 19 markers for the Lady Tamaraws, who won their eighth game in 10, the same record as the Tigresses, 56-46 winners over the Ateneo Lady Eagles.

Adamson dropped into a tie for third place with De La Salle-63-57 overtime winner over University of the East (UE).

Also on Wednesday, University of the Philippines (UP) improved to 2-8 won-lost at the expense of National University.

Two Lady Falcons also booked double-double performances-Anna Buendia with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Jinky Balasta with 10 and 15-but Adamson played catch up all the way against the rampaging Lady Tamaraws.

Juvelyn Andaya exploded with 29 points to practically single-handedly lead the Tigers past the Lady Eagles, who were paced by the 14 points and 13 rebounds of Sarah Mercado.

Danica Jose made nine but lorded over the boards with 18 rebounds for Ateneo, which looked to stunning the Tigresses by leading in the first three quarters, only to fold up at crunch time.

The Lady Archers found a stubborn Lady Warriors crew, which got its second wind in the third and fourth periods to send the game to an extra five minutes, 54-54.

Hannah Viterbo topscored for De La Salle with 21 points, but it was Aracelie Abaca who played big for the Taft-based team with 26 rebounds that went with his 14 points.

Cindy Resultay made 20 points and hauled down 18 rebounds to lead UE’s charge.
