UST Growling Tigers vs DLSU Green Archers

-

UST leaned on the heroics of gunner Jeric Teng as the Tigers finally registered their first win over the Archers since August 2007 in the UAAP men’s seniors basketball tournament Season 74 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum today.

Teng uncorked two triples in the last three minutes to key the Tigers’ 60-52 victory over the Archers – UST’s first since beating the Taft-based squad on August 11, 2007.

“It was a breakout game for Jeric. Hats off to him,” UST coach Pido Jarencio said of Teng, who led all scorers with 14 points on 3-of-6 three-point shooting.

Leading by as much as 15 sometime in the first half, the Espana-based squad seemed headed for another late-game collapse after La Salle trimmed the lead to just a point, 44-43, with about eight minutes left in the payoff period.

But Teng took over, unloading a three-pointer on top of the key at the 2:25 mark, and another one a minute later to keep the Tigers on top.

Bigayan lang kami sa team. I just stepped up,” Teng said in the post-game conference.

Sam Marata chipped in 11 points to lead the Archers, who suffered their third-straight loss for a 4-6 records.

The Tigers also dominated the glass, hauling in 63 rebound compared to the Archers’ 41.

Karim Abdul accounted for 12 rebounds, six of which came on the offensive end.

“Hopefully, we can keep the momentum. There many battles coming up,” Jarencio added.

The win raised UST’s record to 5-5. The Tigers are currently at fourth place behind league-leading Ateneo, Adamson and FEU.
