Starmen rout Makati Med 5

STAR Group of Companies

outplayed Makati Medical Center, 107-72, while 100Plus defeated Duraville Construction, 105-49, in the 2011 MBL Corporate Cup basketball tournament at the San Andres gym in Malate.

Five players, led by Jhong Bondoc, scored in double figures for The STAR, which dominated the game from start to finish for a 1-1 card in the tournament supported by the Manila Sports Council  (MASCO) under Paul Almario and sponsored by Ironcon Builders, Cebuana Lhuillier, WG Diner and PRC Couriers.

Bondoc scattered 19 points while Randel Reducto added 14 points for the Starmen, who bounced back from an 80-84 loss to Parola Maritime-Micah Medical Clinic on opening day.

Chris Corbin, Wayne Tabang and  Mario Reocada contributed 10 points apiece for The STAR.

Former Philippine team mainstay Richard Melencio carried the fight for Makati Med with a game-high 23 points, followed by Ronnel Liwanag with 14, Richard Bisnar with 12.

The Phillip Yulo-mentored 100Plus drew big games from Jeoff Divinagracia, Champ Pujante and Rhum Perry Scott to beat Duraville in th ebattle of debuting teams.

Divinagracia scored 16 points, Pujante had 14 and Scott had 12 points for 100Plus, which als led fromn start to finish.

Rafhael Gustillo added 11 points and Bodie Balmaceda and Ralph sonsona contributed 10 points each.

Stephen Alindogan paced Duraville with 12 points.

Eric Gomez added 11 points and Michael Gomez contributed 10 points for Duraville, which dressed only 10 players.

Alo seeing action are Secret Spices-Wang’s and Gerry’s Grill-PGA Cars.

Multi-titled coach Loreto “Ato” Tolentino is the commissioner, while Albert Andaya is the tournament director.
