Ng snares crown in brave comeback
MANILA, Philippines - Alvin Ng of Ford Focus-Tuason Racing School (TRS) staged a convincing comeback as he turned back his rivals to capture the title recently in the fifth leg of the 2011 Philippine GT Championship Series at the Clark International Speedway.
His exceptional determination proved to be the moving force for Ng to bounce back from a disappointing performance in the Sprint race and capture the GT130 crown for Ford-TRS powered by Castrol, Bridgestone, Ford, OMP, Oakley, Coke Zero, Discovery Suites, Toptul, Speedlab, C! Magazine, Rota, Starbright Bodykits, Dupont, Ultraracing, Aguila Autoglass, Hafele, Gopro, Vwrap and Belo Men.
He ended third overall in the combined race as he completed the 15-lap Main GT in 31 minutes, 29.563 seconds to prevail over points leader Dean Joson and Ford-TRS teammate Sean Redpath.
Following his triumph, Ng moved up second overall in the title hunt with 215 points and trimmed the gap to just 34 points against Joson’s 249 points.
“The Ford-TRS crew was a big help in adjusting the car’s set-up to a championship level despite the heavy afternoon rain in the GT Main Race,” said Ng on his victory.
Redpath, on the other hand, bagged third place in both the Sprint and Main GT races to keep overall third place with 213 points.
And with two legs remaining, both Ng and Redpath remain within striking distance for the GT130 plum.
