Kaikkonen snaps Floirendo's GT championship win run

MANILA, Philippines - Finnish expat Veli-Matti Kaikkonen of Hafele snapped Vincent Floirendo’s four-race winning streak recently in the fifth leg of the 2011 Yokohama Philippine GT Championship Series at the Clark International Speedway.

Getting the needed help from Tuason Racing, Kaikkonen found the right car set-up for his monster Mitsubishi Evo for the remarkable sweep of both the Sprint and Main GT Race.

He beat Floirendo at the start, and despite the tough challenge from the latter, the Finnish expat pulled away from Floirendo, who later quit following a ceased engine in the Sprint event.

He clocked 18 minutes, 53.985 seconds to win the GT300 crown over Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors and third placer Ramil Madriaga. of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by official tires Yokohama Philippines, Enersel Forte, official pace car Honda Cars-Kalookan, Rota Wheels, and Racing [email protected].

Arnel Carlos copped the GT200 title over Dwight Kevin Carlos; Dean Joson won the GT130 class over Ford-TRS drivers Alvin Ng and Sean Redpath while Marc Peter Thomann took the GT100 honors over Jojo Laviña.

Kaikkonen was unstoppable as he completed his sweep with a a one minute, 11.359 second-gap over Joey Pery and Madriaga. Floiredo manage to get back on track but his run again lasted for two laps.

Joselu Romero-Salas clinched the GT200 title over Arnel and Dwight Kevin Carlos; Alvin Ng prevailed over Joson and Redpath in the GT130 while Thomann likewise completed his sweep in the GT100 over Audel Sison and Arvin Drueco.

Long-time racer Joey Almeda and Arvir Gervacio likewise pulled sweeps in the equally-exciting Miata Cup and the Mini-Cooper races respectively.

Almeda dominated the Miata Cup up against Mike O’Pallick while Gervacio put up a solid defense to thwart Rodney Salazar and third placer Patrick Salazar in the Class A division of Mini-Cooper race. Jun Mallari and Ferdinand Raquel Santos split honors in the Class B division over Dindo Razonable.

Willian Tan, the defending GT champion, scored a sweep over Bobby Unson and Peter Lang in both Race 1 and 2 of the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC)

Arvin Drueco and Audel Sison split honors in the Yaris Cup. Drueco won Race 1 over Sison and Laviña while Sison bounce back in Race 2 over Drueco.
