TRS-Castrol revs up for repeat in lateral drift

Manila, Philippines - The Mazda BT-50 drifting pick-up truck gears up for new challenges as the Tuason Racing School-Castrol drift team seeks to retain the crown today in the fourth leg of the 2011 Lateral Drift Pro AM Championship at the Clark International Speedway.

Multi-titled champion Mike Tuason will be gunning for a back-to-back crown in the pro-am division as he will be joined by Bjorn Ongtiaobok in the TRS-Castrol Team powered by Castrol, Bridgestone, Mazda, Oakley, Coke Zero, OMP, Discovery Suites, Toptul, Speedlab, C! Magazine, ROTA, Belo Men, Aguila Auto Glass, Dupont, Starbright Bodykits and Ultraracing.

The Mazda BT-50 created quite a stir two years back as the world’s first drifting pick-up truck. Initially, drifting aficionados thought it would be hard for the Mazda BT-50 to win the race with his bulky size and untested racing quality in such a highly demanding competition.

But last year, the TRS-Castrol team proved them wrong. Finding the right setup, the Mazda BT-50 rose from what they called a one-hit wonder media hype as it evolved into a monster competitive machine beating the highly favored Sylvia s15 and the Nissan Skyline.

Tuason unveiled aggressive driving and perfect maneuvers to upstage Agoncillo for the plum. Ongtiaobok, on the other hand, finished third overall in the event.

“The Mazda BT-50 truly lived up to the championship tradition of the Tuason Racing Team. We’re truly blessed that the drifting pick-up and the whole TRS-Castrol drift team captured the Amateur crown last season,” said TRS president JP Tuason.
