Manila, Philippines - Marie Alexis Sy of Team Prima spearheaded the Philippine’s fourth place finish in the 13th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championship with one gold, one silver and four bronze medals over the weekend at the Esplanade Centre in Bangkok Thailand.

The 19-year-old Sy and Korean Kim Jin-Sun finished tied in the girl’s singles event with a leading identical 1284 total pinfalls in six games to share the gold medal, while fellow Filipino Dyan Arcel Coronacion settled for the bronze with 1282.

“I did not expect that I would be able to catch up with the leaders,” said the Team Prima’s rising teen bowler Sy, a management student in Centro Escular University. “It really felt good to win gold and God served as an inspiration for that win no matter how hard the competition was.”

Finally, we were able to outdo our performance we had at the same venue in 2006,” said team Prima benefactor Alex Lim, commending the players’ impressive feat particularly Sy. “They never gave up until the last event.”

Lim also expressed gratitude to the Philippines Sports Commission, headed by Chairman Richie Garcia, and the Philippine Bowling Congress for their all-out support.

She placed third with 3261 total pin falls behind Korea’s 1-to-2 finish Yeon-Soo Song (3521) and Kim Jin-Sun (3318) in the girl’s masters.
