Steady Dottie shares lead with Chihiro

-

Manila, Philippines - Dottie Ardina matched par 73 for the second straight day and tied ICTSI teammate Chihiro Ikeda for the lead in the second round of the Royal Selangor Ladies Open at the Royal Selagor Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia late Wednesday.

Ardina recovered from a two-bogey mishap at the back where she started with birdies on Nos. 3 and 8 inside four feet, keeping her in step with Ikeda who sputtered with a 75 for a 146.

Ikeda, who shared the first round lead with Malaysian Kelly Tan, fumbled with four bogeys, including a three-putt miscue on No. 12 while making two tap-in birdies on Nos. 13 and 18.

Tan also struggled with a 76 and slid to third at 147 while Michelle Kho, also of Malaysia, stood six shots off the pace with a 79 for a 152.

Meanwhile, Ardina and Ikeda, along with Sheryl Villacencio ran away with the crown in the team gross competition, pooling a 290 from 142 and 148 for an eight-stroke victory over the hosts.

Malaysia pooled a 298 from a 144 and a 154.

In the US, Daniella Uy joined ICTSI teammate Andie Unson in the US Girls Junior Championship as she carded a 73 to finish joint third with Rachel Dai in the qualifier at the White Columns Golf Club in Georgia Tuesday.

Uy shrugged off a bogey start with a cluster of scrambling pars as she struggled all day and reached the green in regulation 11 times. She finished just one stroke behind joint top qualifier Emily Kurey and Collins Bradshaw, who both had 72s.

Sarah Ababa, however, failed to advance as she hobbled with a 77 and missed the cut by three strokes.

Unson shot a 74 at the par 72 Madera Golf Club in California to clinch a spot in the US Girls main event slated this July.
