Belgian thwarts Patrombon's bid
MANILA, Philippines - Jeson Patrombon, slowed down by a swollen left foot, absorbed a 6-7(1), 1-6 loss to Belgian Kimmer Coppejans to crash out of The Junior Championships-Wimbledon in London Tuesday.
Coppejans engaged the 13th seeded Patrombon in long rallies throughout their second-round duel, scoring crosscourt winners that took the fight out of the Filipino.
The Belgian advanced to the Round-of-16 against Kaichi Uchida, a 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3 winner over Australian Ben Wagland.
“The Belgian player was very smart in the rallies, keeping his balls deep to the baseline so Jeson could not attack the net to shorten the rallies,” said Patrombon’s coach Manny Tecson, whose ward hurt his foot in the stretch of his 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over German Julian Lenz in the first round.
