Calderon nails Petron karting ROK jr crown
MANILA, Philippines - Jette Calderon of Jet Racing boosted his promising career when he won the ROK Junior crown in the third leg of Petron Karting Super Series at the Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex recently.
The Cebuano ace, last year’s Clubman Karter of the Year, finished fourth overall behind the senior karters in the combined ROK race, clocking 13 minutes, 42.214 seconds, five seconds ahead of teammate Franco Reyes.
FERN-C Racing’s RR Suba and Matthew Chan wound up third and fourth, respectively, while Daniel Miranda of Marcelo Racing-Cebuana Lhuillier ended up fifth.
With the win, Calderon took the solo lead with 201 points, just one-point over erstwhile leader RR Suba.
Chan, on the other hand, ruled the ROK Novice class, turning back Miranda and CJ Tsui for his first major victory this season in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by Petron, San Miguel Corporation, Denso Iridium Power, Motorstar Eastway and Yokohama Philippines.
Basti Escalante of Tuason Racing also booked his second straight win in the Formula SL Novice class, beating Jaz Monzones of GP1-Natmo Asia and Sacha Feliciano of FERN-C Racing.
Escalante swept the qualifying, pre-final and the final races, wrapping up the 28-lap competition in 14:26.881 seconds or 6.131 seconds ahead of Monzones and Feliciano.
AUTS Racing’s new recruits Jason Ryan Difonturom and Adrian Angeles came in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Carl Pollington of FERN-C Racing and Raymond Cudala of Tuason Racing, meanwhile, scored their third consecutive sweeps in their respective divisions.
Pollington topped the Mini-ROK class over Vince Rojo of Jet Racing and Noj Jerome Julian of Ready2Race while Cudala ruled the Cadet SQ Expert class over William Casequin and Arthur “AT” Tuason.
Bryan Thorp of AUTS Racing topped the Cadet Novice class, beating Xedrei Daquigan and Iolo Estanislao.
