Chan leads kart haul
Manila, Philippines - Matthew Chan shone for FERN-C Racing as he posted his biggest win in the third leg 2011 Petron Karting Super Series at the fast Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex recently.
It was the first big win this season for the 16-year-old Chan, a student of St. Jude Catholic School who clinched the ROK Novice crown with the support of Sanyoseiki Stainless Steel Corporation, Placewell International Services Corporation, and Getaway Tours Int’l. Inc.
He clocked 13 minutes, 56.614 seconds in the 28-lap race, four seconds ahead of closest rival Daniel Miranda. He also placed fourth in the ROK Junior class and sixth overall in the Pre-Finals, upstaging more experienced ROK Senior and ROK Junior karters in the combined ROK race.
Chan thus wrested the solo lead in the ROK Novice division with 219 points.
“I didn’t expect this, but the win was the biggest blessing I got before my birthday. Thanks to the team management, the crew, my teammates and my family for their continuous support,” said Matthew.
Young ace Carl Pollington delivered the second champion trophy for FERN-C Racing with his impressive sweep in the Mini-ROK division.
VJ Suba, who topped both the qualifying heat and the pre-final against defending champion Stefano Marcelo, bagged the runner-up honor in both the ROK Overall and the ROK Senior class.
Sacha Feliciano finished third in the Formula SL division while RR Suba likewise took third place in the ROK Junior division.
FERN-C Racing thus went home with two champion trophies, two runners-up and a third place honor.
“The boys really worked hard, especially Matthew who has improved a lot,” said FERN-C CEO Tom Tan.
