Pucay makes cut despite a 73
Manila, Philippines - Mars Pucay stumbled with a two-over 73 but safely made it to the weekend play in the Queen’s Cup paced by South African Jbe Kruger, Japanese Daisuke Maruyama and Finland’s Kalle Samooja at the Santiburi Samui Country Club in Samui, Thailand yesterday.
Pucay recovered from a three-bogey stint at the front with a 34 at the back for a 39-34 card at the par-71 layout, joining six others in 20th place at 143, eight shots behind Maruyama, Kruger and Samoojia, who took charge of the $300,000 event with 135s.
Maruyama rallied with a 67 while Kruger and Samoojia both shot 68s.
Michael Bibat shot a 72 and likewise advanced with a 146 but the other Filipino bets failed to make the cut pegged at 147.
Tony Lascuna birdied three of the last four holes at the front to salvage a 75 and a 147.
But Artemio Murakami had a 151 after a 76, Juvic Pagunsan had a 152 after a 77 while Elmer Salvador made a 74 but also wound up with a 152.
