NCAA to screen cagers; okays Lyceum entry

MANILA, Philippines - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) yesterday announced it will hold an eligibility meeting for basketball in both seniors and juniors divisions in its forthcoming 87th Season on June 15 and 17 at the San Beda Mendiola campus.

The two-day screening will determine the final roster of qualified students-athletes of all participating schools that will be allowed to play in the much-awaited cage wars.

“It is necessary to have two days for the eligibility to accommodate the 10 schools playing,” said Mike Del Mundo, who chairs the league this season while sitting as a Management Committee (Mancom) representative for host University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD).

“We look forward to finish the two-day session in time,” he added.

The NCAA member schools are UPHSD, San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSCR), Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), Colegio de San Juan de Letran (CSJL), San Beda College (SBC), Jose Rizal University (JRU), College of San Benilde (CSB), Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), Arellano University (AU).

The oldest and one of the most prestigious leagues in the land today also bared that Lyceum of the Philippines University has been accepted as guest team for this year after meeting all the requirements.

After the screening, there will be a traditional kickoff ceremonies to be participated in by players seeing action this season as well as the introduction of the Miss NCAA candidates this year.

Del Mundo said all of the candidates will perform a role as ambassadress of the schools they represent.

Fr. Victor Calvo, OP, of Letran, the Mancom vice chair, will celebrate the Mass for student athletes attending the kickoff set at the UPHSD auditorium.
