Top riders make final surge in drag racing

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading drivers slug it out tomorrow in the championship leg of the Petron Northern Series-2011 National Drag Racing Championship at the Clark International Speedway.

H3 Autoworks top guns Pepi Santos and Edison Cayco gun for crucial wins to seal the crown in separate divisions. Santos is going for his third title in the Quick 8 division against teammate Teofilo Edwin Cayco and Eduardo Pujol of Vannitec.

He currently holds a total of 35 points after topping the first two legs and finishing third in the last race for a nine-point lead over Teofilo Cayco, who has 26 points.

Pujol has 10 points for third overall in the event sponsored by Petron, supported by Yokohama Philippines, Racing Beat@Wave 89.1 FM, Aeromed and sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines.

Also in the fold are defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing, William Hand of Ahra Garage, Norman dela Peña of My Mitsu, Vanni Garcia and Why Why Dagondon of Vannitec, and top V8 muscle car drivers John Ryzia.

Edison Cayco leads the premiere Pro class with 21 points, five points clear of Norman de la Peña. Actor-producer Allen Dizon and Martin Manalo are tied in third overall with 15 points. while top female driver When When Dagondon is in fifth with 10 points.

Defending Pro class champion Anthony Go totes six points and hopes to rebound from mediocre stints in the last three outings.

Teofilo Edwin Cayco likewise tries to formally claim the Super Pro title with 40 points. William Hand and Tiu have 15 and 10 points, respectively.
