Anton dominates Binalonan circuit series leg
MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled Yokohama-Castrol driver Carlos Anton used his experience to the hilt to score another victory in the Binalonan leg of the Circuit Showdown Series recently.
Anton, the defending Hillclimb champion, drove his Mark Young-prepared Castrol Edge CRX to near perfection as he clocked 52.306 seconds to beat his closest rivals by over three seconds.
“The course was really slippery and reminded me of the rallies we used to run, if you went off line by just a foot you would spin out,” said Anton, who bested more than 50 racers from all over the country.
The 1.1km track was laid out at the Binalonan Airfield and racers hit top speeds of over 170 kilometers on the main stretch of the course.
Castrol-Hornitex teammate Alfie Concepcion topped the Group B class with a time of 58.623 seconds, making it a double victory for the team in the event which served as a tune up race for the Hillclimb Championship set June 19 in La Union.
Dwight de la Cruz topped Group C in 102.478 seconds.
“Carlos drove a good race, improving his time with every run and never let anybody come close to his time,” said team owner Mark Young.
