Meralco-QC cops Batang PBA crown

-

MANILA, Philippines - Prince Carlos led a balanced scoring with 14 points as Meralco-Quezon City dismantled Talk N’ Text-Taytay, 72-30, on Tuesday and clinched the 2011 Batang PBA Summer League championship at the Arena in San Juan.

The Batang Tropang Texters simply could not match-up against the height and skills of the Batang Bolts, who dominated the tournament for kids 9-12 years old for the fifth consecutive year.

“The boys played a brilliant game,” said winning coach Mark Herrera.

Gian Mamuyac, one of three carryovers from last year’s champion team made an impact in his farewell game, scoring nine points in the first quarter as Meralco-QC raced to an 18-9 lead.

Dave Ildefonso and Tiny Wilson Lagaras took over in the second period as the Batang Bolts outscored the Batang Tropang Texters, 20-2, to make it 27-point lead and virtually seal the game.

In the other game, Gian Carlo Villaflor scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter to power Petron Blaze-Manila past Rain or Shine- San Juan, 57-51, to salvage third place.
