Motorcycle races make PNG debut

-

MANILA, Philippines - Motorcycle sports scored a breakthrough as it gained the nod of the Philippine Sports Commission to be one of the official competition events in the ongoing POC-PSC National Games in Bacolod.

“We are grateful to the PSC for allowing us to be part of the National Games,” said Macky Carapiet, president of NAMSSA (National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association), which has been tasked to organize the event. “This is unprecedented, a radical but positive change for Philippine sports.”

The motorcycle road races will be held May 28-29 at the old Bacolod City airport.

Carapiet said the other Southeast Asian nations like Thailand and Indonesia have already integrated motorcycle sports into their national games, making them a power in the region.

“Nevertheless, with this development we are optimistic that the skills level of our riders will be at par with theirs in time,” Carapiet said.

NAMSSA is the Philippine Olympic Committee’s (POC) duly recognized national sporting authority for motorcycle sports. It is likewise the sole Philippine federation affiliated with the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the world governing body for motorcycle sports.

Competitions will be in the various underbone and scooter categories based on rider classification and engine displacement.

For details, visit the NAMSSA website www.namssa.org and/or contact NAMSSA at 09178479785, 09194053030: email NAMSSA Secretariat: mailto:[email protected].
